Technology Intern / Associate Engineer
Department: Technology
My experience
Overview
There is an account assignment in which you're put on a team and do work determined by your supervisor for a client company. For me this was helping to develop a touch-screen app for car dealerships. Unfortunately I came on right as the project was in its final stretch so there wasn't much I could do directly on it. I worked on a proof of concept for a later stage of the project and helped rewrite a little bit of the code for the current phase.||There is also an internal challenge in which teams of interns compete against each other to try to come up with the best solution to various given problems based around particular industries (travel, medical, telecommunications, etc..). This challenge lasts the entire internship and you're expected to put roughly 20% of your time toward it. You might just create mock ups and pitch a developed idea, or a functional proof of concept, depending on your proposed solution. At the end of the internship all of these proposals were presented to all of the other interns across North America along with the company leads of each of these industries. Afterward winners were selected and a monetary prize was given to all members of the winning teams.||My day to day involved stand-up meetings, talking to my supervisor about any work he might have for me or my current assignment, working on the internal challenge, helping other interns with their work(especially with their presentations in the last couple of weeks), and connecting with both the full-timers and other interns.||The company also planned social events for the interns, and we were included in all office events during our time there. Everyone there was incredibly helpful, pleasant to be around, and very welcoming.
Would recommend it to people who...
Are interested in front-end work, an extremely good company culture, and like the idea of changing assignments every so often (due to it being a consultation firm).
Would NOT recommend it to people who...
Want to earn the most money possible, or aren't interested in company culture/socializing.

Advice on how to prepare
Career buzz, the interview process wasn't technical and there was no kind of challenging questions. Just asking about your experience and wanting really high level explanations.
