My experience

Overview

I was on the team maintaining cloud infrastructure for the rest of the developers, fulfilling an SRE type of role. I would come in every day, get tickets from JIRA to work on, or update some scripts as they failed. Some larger projects included moving some other teams from on-premise storage, into the cloud. Occasionally, we had training, or a hackathon, or an innovation day to do whatever technical thing we want.

Would recommend it to people who...

Have some CS knowledge and want to explore different areas to figure out what they like or don't like.

Would NOT recommend it to people who...

want to do ML, or want to work with physical devices like microcontrollers. And in the case of my team specifically, want to work on a product that benefits market consumers directly.

Career Fair. Application and interview process was standard, after the Career Fair I was contacted by email with some technical interview questions, and after I sent those in, I was contacted one last time for an on-site interview.
