Engineering Co-op
Department: Extrusion while in Thomson, Ga Plant (Spring 2017) and in Dyeing Department Plant WD, Dalton, Ga (Fall 2017)
My experience
Overview
I did 2 rotations while a ChemE.||In the Dyeing department at Plant WD, the co-op is responsible to gather the off style carpet samples for the morning audit. You bring them to the audit table and managers compare then rate the carpet to the sample. |For about 2-5 hours of each day (it varied) the process engineer and I would look through carpet for defects.|For about an hour each day the co-op would stack boxes of carpet on the shelves.|||This is literally all they wanted me to do. I tried to look for other work, but couldn't find anything impactful. I wouldn't mind if someone reached out and wanted to talk to me about this expereince so that I can spare them the same fate.
Would recommend it to people who...
want to get paid to stack boxes of carpet or to look at carpet
Would NOT recommend it to people who...
have career goals, want impactful jobs/assignments
Impact of work

Advice on how to prepare
I met them at the career fair. Wouldn't recommend talking to them honestly. HR doesn't really know anything about their Co-op program. Recruiters only last a few months at Shaw. During my time I went through 3, they kept quitting.
