My experience
Overview
Most of my time was spent developing a LABView VI to control an actuator test rig. Most days were spent in an actuator test facility, rather than the office, which was pretty great. Outside of that it was mostly analyzing data in MATLAB. There was a little bit of CAD work, but not much.
Would recommend it to people who...
working in challenging projects with talented people.
Would NOT recommend it to people who...
aren't great at managing themselves.

Advice on how to prepare
Referred to the manager of my department. It was very free form with me just getting a chance to interview with the manager and him being interested in me.
