Supply and Risk Management Intern
Department: Scheduling and Trading
My experience
Overview
Mainly worked on options calculation in Python and visualization in Excel, also did VBA automation of data pulls from different worksheets and then validated trading numbers for gas assets
I really liked the company and would consider going back for full-time but it's not really in the career path I'd want (more finance/supply chain management related vs I want to be in more of a technical/engineering-related role) but great company overall
Pros
Cool people and supportive company that cares about your growth, managers and other employees personable
Cons
Sometimes work felt not as exciting or repetitive, also a lot of Excel. Also sometimes project felt a little stressful at times since it was higher priority
Would recommend it to people who...
Like data analysis, data visualization, are comfortable with understanding complex financial models (like options and futures), are comfortable with programming
Impact of work
Time spent working
How did working remote affect your experience?
It was pretty good - had enough virtual event calls to get to know other ppl on team/inside of company
Interview advice
How did you find the job / apply?
Interview Rounds
Interview type
Interview questions
STAR questions, also case question with valuation of competitor price analysis. Basically asked if you were a gas station owner selling a case of a certain drink item how would you set the price if you know what the average price for the drink is, and how would you adjust according to seasonal demand, so like cost optimization
Advice on how to prepare
Get experience in Python and data visualization (Excel obviously but doing matplotlib or sci-py helps) and knowing VBA is a plus. Also knowing about natural gas markets like with Henry Hub natural gas futures would look really good
