Project Management Co-op
Department: New Construction
My experience
Overview
Supported (1-2) Project Managers along with their field team. As you work through your terms, you are given more and more valuable work and responsibility. 30% of time spent on financial analysis/management, 35% of time spent on bookkeeping (co-op is the cheapest labor on the job, so you get stuck with a lot of the file management), 35% on walking the project site, reviewing/troubleshooting installed systems (especially more so once you gain experience/cred with your team), reviewing engineering drawings, etc. The engineering tasks are mostly interesting, fun, meaningful, and build you skills a bunch, but all the file organization and financial paperwork can really be a drag.
Pros
Being on site, working with field crews, reviewing drawings, troubleshooting equipment
Cons
file management, paperwork, corporate-pushed box checking, HVAC & plumbing systems are pretty repetitive, not a lot of new things between projects
