Leasing Intern
Department: Commercial Real Estate Leasing Team
My experience
Overview
I would help reach out to potential businesses to fill vacancies in shopping centers, follow up with social media posts, and manage background projects and their timelines to help fill the gaps in the work for the leasing agents.
This internship, like any internship, is what you make of it. I learned very early on that I am not going to pursue a career in commercial real estate but I knew that I could be an asset for the team because I saw where my skillset best aligned. Through constant giving and receiving of feedback, I was able to create a new Leasing Intern Training manual. Since the end of my internship, I have kept up the friendships I made in the office and I have such good memories with them! Give every internship, whether or not it's your "thing", your best shot.
Would recommend it to people who...
Want to learn the soft skills of the workplace (real estate agents have fantastic soft skills & you'll attend a LOT of business lunches)
Would NOT recommend it to people who...
Need someone constantly telling them what to do, get easily distracted at work, can't sit in a cubicle

Advice on how to prepare
Be an engaging person in each portion of the interview. This job requires a lot of soft skills and willingness to learn, so be willing to demonstrate this early.
