Research Intern
Department: Biomedical Engineering
My experience
Overview
As a part of the Chemical Engineering Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), I was a part of a research project that synthesized biomaterial for implications in protein purification and filtration. I made membranes using an electrospinner and used different methods to approach creating an optimized membrane.
Overall, I think that this REU and others can be beneficial if you like doing research. I was able to get my spot in the program my freshman year and there are lots of great eats here in Fayetteville, AR.
Pros
Nice team, get paid around every 2 and a half weeks Oral presentation at the end Work with professors that are quite knowledgeable Get free time on the weekends
Cons
Sometimes the lab work doesn't seem like it has purpose Lots of literature review Very complex concepts that can be hard to understand
Impact of work
