ACE Specialist, Co-op
Department: Continuous Improvement
My experience
Overview
Several Kaizen events, including a lot of process mapping. A big facility planning project and event. Wind tunnel time studies and layout measurements. Some coding.
Pros
Lots of interesting work to do, clear goals but with the expectation that you'll measure your own success, emphasis on process sustainability (not environmental, business sustainability).
Cons
Lots of politics to navigate, Loose reporting structure
Impact of work
Time spent working
How did working remote affect your experience?
Most of my work evaporated halfway through because of the pandemic, but they kept me on board. In fact, the co-ops were some of the only employees who didn't take a pay cut due to the lost business! And they did everything they could to accommodate me and we found new things to work on.

Interview questions
I interviewed with three different Collins sites and all of them were very different. One was extremely behavioral, one was a case study about a continuous improvement project where, after answering each question, they added on some event and you had to say what you'd do to respond to it, and the last one felt like a pop quiz about various engineering things (no calculator needed).
Advice on how to prepare
Whatever list I got put on from meeting the recruiter at the career fair is the one I needed to be on, so do that.
