Technical Summer Intern
Unstructured internship Columbia, MD Employed: Summer 2019
Format: In-person
My experience
Overview
I made an Android application in Java to create a backup of user data and a Go program to download these backups and organize them into an SQL database.
There was nothing for me and my partner to do for long stretches of time, so I likely spent more time playing Solitaire and answering Stack Overflow questions than actually doing work.
Pros
Decent wage
Cons
Extreme lack of work, no mentorship, tense culture
Impact of work
Time spent working

Advice on how to prepare
Know at least a couple of programming languages and a few of the technologies listed in the job description. Be prepared, though, for the possibility that you'll need to learn one or more new programming languages on the job, and make it clear in the interview that you are comfortable with learning new things as necessary.
