Mechanical Engineering Intern
Department: Rotating Machinery Group
My experience
Overview
Two main projects. The first involved a bearing test rig. I assembled the rig, set up the instrumentation, wired up a three phase motor to a power source, and then operated the rig and collected data and passed it onto a client. My second project involved making a tool in python/excel to aid with the design of pipe loops. This tool used fluid mechanics, costing data, and pipe stress calculations.
COVID definitely affected the community aspect of this internship as about 90% of the company was working remotely when I started and I was asked to come in since my focus was mainly on testing projects.

Advice on how to prepare
Very specific to the department/boss who is trying to hire you. They have a good career site where you can apply to many jobs at the same time so take advantage.
