Cathodic Protection Intern
Department: Gas Distribution
My experience
Overview
Spent almost my entire time either 1) using ArcGIS + Excel to combine gas pipe sectors (essentially very, very boring data entry; I listened to so many podcasts) or 2) job shadowing other engineers/managers in the company (required driving 3/5 days of the week, between 1-3 hrs each way. But I got mileage, so I'm not complaining)
If you're interning in Jackson, MI, get housing at the local community college! They have super cheap prices ($800 total for the whole summer), a security guard at the front desk, and I felt super safe going for a run or walk in the evenings. The apartments are set up with 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms; and a shared kitchen/living room area. Consumers provides you with a list of other interns, and that's how I found my roommates for the summer. They were super sweet and I loved living with them :)
Would recommend it to people who...
like watching other people do construction; want to end up in management with little engineering work

Advice on how to prepare
As long as you can be personable and decently competent in answering interview questions, you have a great chance of getting the job!
