VSFS Intern
Department: Regional China Office - East Asia and Pacific Region
My experience
Overview
Biggest project was doing a weekly research report of news articles to see what was happening related to China in a designated set of countries in the East Asia and Pacific region
They don't do a great job of professional development, so you have to be very proactive about asking for opportunities and learning. My boss wasn't usually very responsive and I got the sense that was pretty common -- they're all underpaid and understaffed. Very reflective of the work of a diplomat, though. Learned it wasn't for me which was helpful
Would recommend it to people who...
are interested in becoming a diplomat

Advice on how to prepare
Some VSFS internships can be very competitive (500+ people for 1 spot), so try to go for less popular ones. The interview process can look very different for each program.
