Data Scientist Co-op
Department: Analytical Services
My experience
Overview
A variety of different projects: conducted statistical analyses such as control charts and analysis of covariance for pharmaceutical products, entered and reviewed data in their lab database system (LIMS), created Tableau dashboards to monitor the statuses of products and stability plans in their system, constructed workflows to show how products are passed from one lab to another
Both my boss and my boss's boss are very encouraging people. They want you to branch out, explore different parts of the company, try new things, etc. They were very open to new ideas and were looking for ways to improve the processes they have - that's where the co-op/intern can help
Pros
Friendly people, understanding and encouraging boss, flexible hours
Cons
Hard to get work all the time, minimal technology stack
Impact of work
Time spent working
How did working remote affect your experience?
More difficult to connect with people and feel part of the company

Interview questions
The interviewer asked about technology that I was aware of or had used that would fit the purpose that she described. I think she also asked about what I was looking for on co-op or why I wanted the position. None of the questions were very difficult, meaning there wasn't really a right answer, more about how you responded and adapted to follow-up questions. That took roughly 30 minutes. The last 30 minutes were given to me to ask questions.
Advice on how to prepare
Be aware of the different types of technology out there are how they can benefit the company based on what the job description says. Be flexible, open-minded, communicate often, and be willing to find your own work and projects to tackle.
