Manufacturing Engineer Intern
Department: Suwanee Plant
My experience
Overview
First, you will likely learn how the plant works for the first 2 weeks or more, then you will start projects. Lots of project variety. Looked for late orders in the system and on the production floor. Planned and implemented a department scanning system. Identified and reported reasons for production slowdowns. Made new hire training instructions. Researched potential hardware for full product tracking. One project had me drawing a tool die in AutoCAD.
This is a GREAT place to have an internship experience if you want to get your feet wet in manufacturing. they will teach you lots about lean ideas and how to think about he big picture. The only reason I put the culture as 3 stars is because there is a large difference between the enthusiasm of salaried workers (includes interns) and production staff. It is not something significant enough to not recommend an internship by any means, but you will notice. If they like you, they'll very likely offer you a job after you graduate. Also Price has a significant market share of Grilles, Registers, and Diffusers. Once you learn the product line you will see 520s, SPDs, SCDs, and much more absolutely everywhere.
Pros
Great place for a first time internship! Ask for work and they'll give it to you. Taking the initiative will not go unnoticed.
Cons
Occasionally, everyone is so busy that guidance seems out of reach.
