Software Developer Intern
Department: UX & SDE Team
My experience
Overview
Lead design and implementation of a web and Windows application to retrieve and edit settings from the company's products (which were electrical equipment). This included designing and implementing APIs, working with WebSocket for notifications about faulty settings, exposing a GraphQL API to access all of the APIs and WebSocket functionality, and building a dynamic user interface to render different screens for different devices.
Some of the previously written corporate software wasn't great, and I had to look at the source code since there was essentially no documentation for the company's software that I was using in my application.
Would recommend it to people who...
Want some exposure to software development in a non-tech environment.
Would NOT recommend it to people who...
People who already have experience in SDE and/or have creative ideas.
Impact of work
How much knowledge or experience was needed going in (pre-requisites)?
Time spent working
How did working remote affect your experience?
I didn't get to see the other interns and the employees in person, which felt weird for me. I think the UX & SDE team will continue remote work after Covid but I'm not sure

Advice on how to prepare
It was quite easy, not a whole lot of programming experience required to pass the interview
